Valley of the Moon

Had a lazy three days in San Pedro de Atacama...we finally pulled ourselves from the pool for an afternoon tour of the Valley of the Moon, said to be the driest place on earth. The scenary was incredible - huge sand dunes (we spotted a few sandboarders in the distance), craggy mountains, and massive salt crystals. Our guide (who happened to be wearing a great t-shirt if you ask me) informed us this area is in the midst of an eight year draught, averaging 2mm of rain a year.

We timed the finale with an equally stunning sunset enjoyed from a mountain peak. Can't beat the view.

  1. Eerie landscape, hardly seems real. Aptly named, for sure. Pics are wonderful, per usual. Although none of Micah with beard...still growing? Wondered if you had a chance to star gaze but sounds like you opted for well-deserved R&R at very lovely Atacama digs. Loved seeing your guide in his Polska t-shirt. Showed the pic to our Polish housepainter who got a kick out of it. Jon should feel sympatico with the guide...same taste in t-shirts. Blackhawks struggling through playoffs, Cubs lost to Mets at Shea, er, Citfield, last night and Uniqlo just took 30,000 sq. ft. of space in your building at 666-5th! NYC retail must be looking up. 143, Mom.

  2. Every time I click to your next entry on the blog, I feel the landscape and photographs becoming more and more stunning. Compliments to the photographers. And this is me only looking on the computer. I can imagine in "live" you are awe struck by the shockingly beautiful views in front on you.

Looks like you found your long lost Polish cousin. So funny that he is wearing that t-shirt of all places.

Well sure beats the view that I have out of my apartment. Fireescape, gimme coffee and the smell of boiled pork.

    Talk later,

    Annie
